People's behaviour is determined by where they live, by their society and culture. The behaviour that is acceptable in one culture may not be acceptable in another. Cultural differences may create misunderstandings and cause offence.

Here is a list of things that people do, some of which might not be allowed in your part of the country.

In the Society

  1. Men and women who are friends are allowed to kiss each other on the cheek when they meet.
  2. You are not supposed to eat with left hand.
  3. You are not permitted to talk to women you don't know.
  4. You can ask people how much they earn.
  5. You are not allowed to drop by a friend's house without asking them first.
  6. You are expected to arrive on time when you're invited to someone's home.
  7. When you have lunch out with your friends, you are supposed to pay for everybody.
  8. you are allowed to choose your husband or wife.
  9. A woman is allowed to have more than one husband.
  10. Girls are allowed to go out with boys.

On the Street

  1. You are not allowed to clear your throat in public.
  2. You can bargain when you buy things.
  3. You are not permitted to sell things on the pavements.
  4. You are not allowed to sell alcohol without a licence.

In School

  1. You are not allowed to call your teachers by their first names.
  2. Girls and boys can sit together in the same row.
  3. You don't have to stand up when a teacher or visitor comes into your classroom.
Things to remember
  • It includes every relationship which established among the people.
  • There can be more than one community in a society. Community smaller than society.
  • It is a network of social relationships which cannot see or touched.
  • common interests and common objectives are not necessary for society.
